1. In spite of / Despite

  • Simple: In spite of + possessive noun/pronoun + verb + ing
  • Compound: Subject + verb + but + subject + verb
  • Complex: Though / Although + subject + verb

    → He was poor but honest. (Compound)

2. Without / Unless / If Not
